Photobucket

The neighborhood of Clearview in Red Deer is composed of two separate and unique areas, with the older, more established area to the south and the new community of North Clearview which is currently in the stages of development. The older portion of the neighborhood was originally conceived in the late 1970′s-early 1980′s, and offered a wide...

Everyone is on about food, but have you all been to that nice little ladies clothing shop on 53rd Street, just west of Central school-cannot think of the name of it, but, it has new and “gently used” clothing-only quality items are seen there, along with shoes, jewellery, purses etc. It is in an old home that has been fixed up with love. There are other interesting shops along that street as well. It is worth a wander down that street.

Great comments people, so many places for me to go check out. Just out of curiosity Drew, how the heck do you know anything about Red Deer?! We are kind of far from Campbell River… Althought that was a good choice!

Eh-Yo Albertan’s!

My favourite Red Deer small business (besides True North Realty), would have to be Inner Radiance Day Spa. Located downtown Red Deer, this small business provides a rain-forest inspired theme – something to remind me of my island paradise home. A deep tissue massage, followed by a body wrap is the best prelude to the most relaxing aromatic steaming in their newly renovated steam-room. Why not treat yourself to a little manpering?

One of my most favorite red deer business is a delightful little shop down town called House Warmings. It seriously has the most unique gifts and cards down there. The woman that owns it is really delightful and loves what she does. When ever I am looking for that hard to shop for person, I just go down there and I can always find something that is unique and right. You should seriously check it out.

I am a big coffee person, so one of my favorite places is Cafe Vero located in the Eastview shopping plaza next to Sobeys. It was opened by the owners of Apple Drugs a few years ago. I also had the pleasure of working there for a year and half and it made some great memories and also allowed me to meet some great people. Its fairly low key which is nice if you want to take a quiet break with a delicious hot or cold beverage. They also serve freshly made panini sandwiches which make a perfect lunch as well as a variety of desserts! Another interesting aspect of the cafe is that they host art openings monthly. Its a great opportunity for new (or old) artists/photographers to show off and even sell some of their greatest work.
So if you love coffee but need to get away from the Starbucks trend, go check it out!

Favorite local Red Deer business… That’s a tough one… I guess I’d have to say Brandon County Saloon. Wait, I mean the Manhatten Club. Wait I mean Tryst. Wait, I don’t even know anymore… I wish they wouldn’t change the name of that bar everytime someone gets stabbed there… I find it really confusing. Are those metal detectors even plugged in?

Scratch my last comment. I forgot that Old Mil is brewed in Guelph. Not only is it my favorite local business but it is the one I support the most. In fact I am supporting it right now as I write this post. I can even see how my personal contribution supports the local economy. I buy and drink my Old Mil and then kindly give my empty cans to the local hobbos. In an average week I bet I give enough so that they too can go out and enjoy their own 6 pack of local liquid gold.

Free cupcakes? Why twist my rubber arm…
1) I second Andrea and vote for Velvet Olive. It’s always the first place we go to on a night out. 2) Matchbox Theatre. I haven’t been as much as I wish but love the atmosphere and culture it adds to our wee city. 3) Second floor of Sunworks. It’s brilliant light and open space is intoxicating. 4) babycakes cupcakery, of course. 5) (cuz I’m on a roll) Tipi Tina’s Diner out at the airport. The ladies are charming and this quirky little lunch spot has thee best sandwiches around.
